One of the first investment projects by Hydro at the Alumetal plants was the upgrade of sorting lines with top-tier solutions. At the Nowa Sól facility, state-of-the-art equipment for additional aluminum scrap sorting was installed, based on LIBS (Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy) technology. The investment was completed according to the project schedule, and its implementation marks an important step toward increasing efficiency and sustainable development.

Initial tests and supplementary optimization efforts demonstrated the effectiveness of the initiative at a level higher than expected.

The new installation enables an increased share of PCS (Post-Consumer Scrap) in the materials used for production, which significantly reduces the carbon footprint of the products. This is another example of how technological innovation supports the achievement of environmental goals and strengthens the company’s competitiveness in the European market.
